Greetings everyone!

I'd like to take the chance to say a big THANKYOU to all of you who made this Drink & Draw such a lovely regular event. Without you, your dedication, your talent and ideas this group would not be what it is now.

Another big THANKYOU goes to the Franciscan Well staff - you guys always make us feel welcome and well looked after and choosing the Well as a location for the Drink & Draw has turned out to be the best idea ever.

Plannings for our trip to Galway on November 29th are coming together really well, btw. We're going to stay at the Kinlay House Hostel and it's just 21,- Euro the night including a basic breakfast. We will meet up with the fellow sketchers from the Galway Pub Scrawl, the NUIG Art Soc and the Comic Soc, so we are looking forward to a great time! Road Trip to Galway!

Join us on a road trip to Galway!  

Tuesday, 29th of November.

We will be going up to Galway by bus and stay in a hostel

for one night, heading back to Cork the next day.

There will be loads of drawing, meeting up with the fellas from the

Galway Pub Scrawl, going for food and drinkies

and a good night out in town.

If you were lucky enough to see the fantastic Dr. Sketchy's Life Drawing Event in the Crane Lane on Saturday, then you will agree with me: It was a blast!! Great setting, beautiful alternative models (they were GORGEOUS!!), Rock & Roll music and cupcakes and tequila shots and, and, and...! Life drawing has never been so entertaining :) Hope they come back to Cork one day!

And if you missed the event, just come to the next Drink & Draw on Tuesday, April 12th, and hang out with us for an evening. There won't be any half-naked models posing for us, but hey - use your imagination, that's what the sketch group is for ;)

The next Drink & Draw is on TUESDAY, 26th of October in the Franciscan Well, 8.00 pm. The staff told me they will have the beer garden open and heated for the rest of the year, how awesome is that? :) It's getting close to Halloween so let's draw lots of zombies, ghosts and scary fairies =P

We also had some talk the other night about going to Dublin for the Dr. Sketchy Burlesque Life Drawing (http://www.drsketchysdublin.com). They hold it every end of a month and I heard it is quite funky and colourful. So far the idea is to drive up to Dublin by train or bus, take a hostel and stay one night, including going out and take the chance to say hello to the Dublinsketchers as well. There's no date set yet, it will either be end of November or start of next year. So please let me know if you would be interested - should be definitely fun! :)

The summer here in Cork is amazing and so are the evenings in the beer garden, was a very enjoyable sketchmeet last night and hello to all the new faces, we hope to see you around soon.

So, the next Drink & Draw will be on TUESDAY, 8th of June in the outdoor area of the Franciscan Well, starting at 8pm.

And we're toying around with the idea of organizing another life drawing session mid/end of June. We need to get at least 10-15 people who are seriously interested, so if you want to practice your drawing skills and anatomy knowlege, write an email to drinkdrawcork@yahoo.ie.

12.00 pm:
Meeting point at the fountain in Fitzgerald Park. We will be sketching in the park for about an hour and then move on towards the city centre.

13.30 pm:
University College Cork - lots of things and people to draw plus the Glucksmann Gallery.

15.00 pm:
St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral and Elizabeth Fort, in which there’s a museum about living history with re-enactors in full period costumes.

16.30 pm:
Following the Quays towards the City Hall, where we meet around 17.00 – 17.30 pm. Anyone who’s up for hitting the town afterwards and having a drink and look at all the sketches is very much welcome to do so! :)

The last Drink & Draw was a great evening for all of us, so feel very much invited to the next sketch meet in the Franciscan Well on Thursday, 4th.

After a few weeks of switching around between Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and Hayloft/Franciscan Well it's definitely time to stop the confusion, promised! :) We now are clear about what days might suit us best and what location we like most. So from now on:

The Drink & Draw's are going to take place in the Franciscan Well in future.
The days will be Tuesday and Thursday by turn every fortnight.

If you're still not sure when the next meeting will be, just have a look at this blog or our Facebook Group events, I always keep them up to date.

This is the last Drink & Draw in 2009, so let's all meet up again and enjoy and share a nice evening with drawing, talking, laughing and having some drinks!

Topic of this meeting: Portrait of your choice.

Many have their problems with the human face, so face it! Print a random portrait photograph from the web or somewhere else and bring it with you. And draw it in your style. Use what you like best - pencil, markers, watercolours, gouache... I'm sure you will be surprised by your result :) Afterwards we loosen up our fingers and play Pictionary.

Due to the floodings in Cork and the aftermath I reckon not many of us will actually appear on Thursday for the Drink & Draw. Even though the Long Valley Bar wasn't affected by the flooding, there's no reason to get the whole Hayloft for just a small number of people.

However, I don't wanna cancel the Drink & Draw because of this. Let's meet downstairs in the Long Valley instead. There's a lovely corner in the back or a separate room at the entry. Everyone who's sick of the flood and can make it and wants to share a few sketches and pints is very much welcome! =)

With great anticipation I'd like to announce that we actually can have our own little private pub for our drawing sessions! It's called The Hayloft and is located in the Long Valley Bar, 10 Winthrop Street, Cork. Just upstairs.

Have a look, it's so cosy!

Here's plenty of space to bring laptops, graphic tablets, books, drawing blocks, art supplies, etc.

We meet there the oncoming Tuesday at 20.00h. If you can't find the Hayloft's entry, just ask the friendly barmen and they will help.

The first meeting will take place in the Franciscan Well in Cork City on August 31, at 19.oo (www.franciscanwellbrewery.com).

It's gonna be a relaxed and enjoyable evening, meeting up and get to know each other, doodling and socialising. You will recognise us easily, just watch out for the most amount of sketchbooks and pencils in the pub and you'll find us!
